The world’s most prestigious computer conference to be delivered online for the first time in its 39 year history
The ACM Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI) conference is going virtual with the support of Delegate Connect, a global conferencing technology company specialising in virtual and hybrid events. The international virtual event will take place from May 8-13.
CHI 2021 was previously planned as a hybrid conference in Yokohama Japan, before becoming an online only conference.
“This is the 39th year for this prestigious series of conferences which are hosted by the ACM Special Interest Group on Computer-Human Interaction”, said Professor Aaron Quigley, the CHI 2021 General Co-Chair.
“People who come to CHI bring their best research work, their best ideas and indeed their best questions to help advance the field and to help shape the impact of this work.
“We hope this accessible online experience for CHI 2021 brings down some of the barriers to participation as we expose more people to HCI and how it’s changing the world”.
Throughout 2020, Delegate Connect has partnered with large organisations to quickly transform their in-person events into hybrid and virtual conferences.
Delegate Connect combines its purpose-built conferencing platform with in-house production and streamlined event management processes to quickly deliver large events in extremely short timeframes.
Delegate Connect’s Managing Director, Jordan Walsh said it was uncharted territory for CHI and they needed a technology partner to deliver on the complex project in a very short timeframe.
“We are thrilled to be working with CHI to deliver for the first time the conference as a virtual event. Delegate Connect is pushing the boundaries of what virtual event technology can deliver for multi day, multi time zone conferences to a global audience.
“CHI going virtual shows how much the industry has changed. Technology is enabling what was considered the impossible for event managers. In CHI’s case, we have a New York based organisation that was planning to run their annual event in Japan, and due to COVID is forced to bring the entire conference online, with the event now running out of Melbourne, Australia. There are no limits to virtual events, and this is a perfect example.
“In addition to the delivery platform, we will also be offering features such as screen read, captioning and interpreters to ensure that the event is accessible and inclusive to all delegates. We look forward to exceeding delegate, speaker and sponsor expectations.”
